August 27:  SKAAGEN, DENMARK.

This paradise at the tip of Denmark contains a surprising sophistication, with many cafes and seaside shops attesting to the large population of artists who reside here. Hans Christian Anderson wrote here, and the Skagen Impressionists painted many works of art that rival any of their French counterparts.

August 28:  BERGEN, NORWAY.
9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
This ancient Viking port is steeped in medieval history. The most fascinating sites here are the 12th-century Fantoft Stave Church with its rooftop dragons; Haakon's Hall, where the Norwegian kings were crowned; and Troldhaugen, the lakeside home of composer Edvard Grieg.

August 29:  LERWICK, SHETLAND ISLANDS, SCOTLAND.
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Lerwick in the Shetland Islands is Great Britain's most northerly town. Visit the old harbor and a prehistoric site containing a Bronze Age fort.

August 30 AT SEA.
While cruising, enjoy endless amenities aboard your ship: There are two pools, three whirlpools, Casino Royale, a beautiful, lush solarium with waterfalls, golf simulators, etc.  Summer in Scandinavia—paradise at sea!

Serenade of the Seas

August 31:  AKUREYRI, ICELAND

Reykjavik

September 1 & 2:
REYKJAVIK  2:00 p.m.  Reykjavik is the gateway to a jagged land of fire and ice. With its widespread lava fields, massive glaciers, deep fjords, lush lowlands and high plains, Iceland is a haven for geology and nature lovers. The city is the region's cultural and financial center. The most popular tours visit the Golden Waterfall, the Strokkur Geyser, Thingvellir National Park, and the famous Blue Lagoon, where you can soak in thermal waters.  Set sail Sept. 2 at 5:00 p.m.

September 3:
 DAY AT SEA.
After so many ports of call, relax at sea on the beautiful Serenade.  Opt to workout at the fitness center, or indulge in a spa treatment. Take in a live musical show, or rock out at the disco on the uppermost deck of the ship.

The Prince Christian Sound

September 5:  QAQORTOQ, GREENLAND
9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.  Full day in Greenland.
Qaqortoq is one of the most beautiful cities in Greenland and is a center for artisans and festivals.  In the summer there is the flower festival, where lush and colorful flowers surround the sparkling icebergs.  Another curiosity:  Artists carve sculptures in boulders around town.

Qaqortoq

September 6-7:  DAYS AT SEA.
Two relaxing days at sea.  Wireless Internet service is available aboard the Serenade.

September 8:  SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
9:00 a.m-6:00 p.m.
Nova Scotia means “New Scotland,” and early Scottish settlers felt the land resembled home. A popular excursion is to the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Park, an amazing re-creation of a 1744 French fortress. Bird-watchers will want to venture out to Bird Islands to spot the Atlantic puffin and bald eagle. The sinuous Cabot Trail along the coast offers one of the most dramatic drives in North America.

September 9:  HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA
10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
This city's seafaring roots run deep. Displays at the Maritime Museum include models of vessels and a Titanic exhibit.  Excursions visit the Citadel National Historic Park, the Nova Scotia Museum, Bay of Fundy and Peggy's Cove.  Even Vikings made it this far south!

September 10:  DAY AT SEA.
Final day is yours to do some final packing, shopping, playing, and/or gambling at the casino.
